This procedure is associated with very little pain and vision is corrected nearly immediately or by the next day. LASIK is a laser eye surgery designed to treat refractive errors, improve vision and reduce or eliminate the need for glasses.

LASIK  (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is a type of refractive surgery for correcting myopia, hyperemia, and astigmatism.

LASIK is performed by ophthalmologists using a laser. The procedure is generally preferred to photorefractive keratectomy, PRK, (also called ASA, Advanced Surface Ablation) because it requires less time for the patient's recovery, and the patient feels less pain overall.

However, there are instances where a PRK/ASA procedure is medically justified as being a better alternative to LASIK. LASIK is a laser eye surgery designed to treat refractive errors, improve vision and reduce or eliminate the need for glasses. LASIK is short for laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis, the technical term for the surgical procedure. This procedure utilizes a specialized laser underneath the corneal flap to reshape the cornea. Custom LASIK surgery with IntraLase, also known as wavefront LASIK, uses 3-dimensional measurements of how your eye processes images to guide the laser in re-shaping the cornea. With a wavefront measurement system, some extremely precise, individualized vision corrections may be achieved that would be impossible with traditional LASIK surgery, contact lenses or glasses.

The IntraLase Method is a blade-free technique used to perform the most important step in the LASIK procedure which is creating the corneal flap.  The creation of the corneal flap prepares the eye for the second step of the procedure, where the excimer laser in used on the inner cornea to correct vision.  IntraLase improves precision and visual results of LASIK, whether you choose to have a standard or custom procedure.
Leading doctors and teaching hospitals from around the world believe in and use the IntraLase Method.  It is the most sophisticated and accurate technology for corneal flap creation available today and has given many patients great confidence and assurance in choosing laser vision correction.

Dr. Vinay Gutti is our refractive surgeon at La Mirada Eye and Laser Center and specializes in LASIK and PRK.  He has had extensive training in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at UCI Dept. of Ophthalmology. He has performed several procedures with outstanding results.
